Lithuania stops transit of goods to Kaliningrad since June 18
KALININGRAD, Jun 20 (PRIME) -- The Lithuanian railways have notified Russia’s Kaliningrad railways of termination of transit of some goods, sanctioned by the E.U., since June 18, Governor of the Kaliningrad Region Anton Alikhanov said in his Telegram account on June 17.
“According to our estimates, it is about 40–50% of all the cargoes, transported from the Kaliningrad Region to other Russia’s regions, including construction materials, cement, and metals,” he said.
Alikhanov said that such Lithuania’s actions violate a number of international laws and Russia is considering retaliatory measures.
“Lithuania’s actions are illegitimate and will cause consequences for the E.U.,” the governor said.
The ban will increase the region’s logistic costs, which may require new subsidies from the government, Alikhanov said.
He added that new vessels at the Ust-Luga–Baltiisk line will be necessary.
Alikhanov said that the transit of oil products to the Kaliningrad Region will continue until August 10.
